Ski straps and carry systems, compared

This is the cheapest shelf on the site and the one most likely to be bought twice, because the first pair is usually the wrong pair. A ski strap does one of two jobs and the products for them are different. A binding strap holds two skis base-to-base so they do not scissor in a car or a cellar: it is short, it wraps, and the corpus shows them sold in packs of two, six and ten at 9 to 13 €, in lengths like 48 × 5 cm. A carry strap takes the weight on a shoulder and has to be long enough to reach it, padded where it sits, and non-slip against a jacket. Buying the first for the second job is the mistake: a 48 cm wrap will not go over a shoulder. The closure is the second thing to read. Hook-and-loop is instant and loses its grip once it has been iced; a buckle holds indefinitely and takes both hands; a silicone loop is the lightest and the easiest to lose. The width decides whether the strap cuts: 5 cm across a shoulder is comfortable, 2 cm is not. The pack count matters more than it should — a pair of skis needs two straps, a pair of skis and poles needs three, and half of this shelf is sold in odd numbers. The last thing is whether the strap grips the ski itself: a wrap that closes over the brakes will not hold, and the good ones say where they sit.
