SlopeVerdict is an independent editorial site about equipment for snow and ice — what slides: alpine, touring and cross-country skis, snowboards, snowshoes, sledges and ice skates — what holds the foot and joins it to the board: ski boots, snowboard boots, ski bindings, snowboard bindings and ski poles — what covers the head and the eyes: ski helmets, ski goggles and replacement goggle lenses — what is carried for an avalanche: transceivers, probes, shovels and airbag packs — what climbs: climbing skins and ski crampons — the workshop: edge sharpeners, ski vises, tuning files, scrapers and brushes, glide wax, grip wax and waxing kits — the ice: hockey sticks, skate sharpeners and skate guards — and what carries, stores, dries and warms: ski bags, boot bags, storage racks, carry straps, locks, boot dryers, gloves, socks, neck warmers, hand warmers, wrist guards, impact shorts, ice grips, snow brushes and stomp pads. It does not cover back protectors and thermal base layers, or trekking poles, which are covered elsewhere; nor lessons, guiding or avalanche courses; nor anything presented as advice on whether a particular slope may be skied on a particular day. Lengths, waist widths, radii, flex indices, last widths, Mondopoint sizes, DIN ranges, brake widths, sole standards, filter categories, temperature bands, volumes, spike counts, stated loads and masses published by manufacturers are reported as such, with their unit written as published, with their source named, and never derived by us. In particular, a DIN range and a release setting are reported as the two different things they are, and the first is never presented as the second. Nothing here replaces a manufacturer's own instructions, the setting a workshop puts on a binding, the standard printed on a label, or the rules of the country you are in — and two statements are repeated on every page that touches them: a published figure describes a product measured against an assumed user, and is never presented here as advice about what a particular skier needs; and no helmet, no airbag pack, no wrist guard and no impact short is described on this site as making anything safe.
