The corpus is nearly unanimous — « Langlaufski-Set … + Bindung + Schuhe + Stöcke » — and a set is the sensible purchase because the four parts have to agree with one another. The first decision is not a brand, it is a technique. Classic skis run in two parallel tracks and are pushed straight back; skating skis are shorter, stiffer and pushed outward, and the two are not interchangeable in either direction. The titles say which: « klassisch », « Comfort Cruiser », « Summit » and « Sprint Crown » on one side, « LS Skate » and « Skating » on the other. Then comes the figure that makes this family unusual: the length is chosen on the skier's weight, not their height, and the listings print the bracket — 199 cm for 82 kg and up, 204 cm for 91 kg and up, 175 cm for 65 to 80 kg. A classic ski has to be long and stiff enough that the grip zone under the foot only touches down when the skier pushes, and that is a weight question. The binding standard is the third: boot and binding must share it, which is why sets exist, and why a set with boots included is worth more than the sum of its parts.
